BEFORE YOUR EXAM
A little preparation makes a difference.
Ultrasound and X-ray are available at Capital. Your preparation depends on the exact examination requested.
Follow your appointment instructions. Ask the imaging team about food, fluids or medication before making changes.
YOUR ULTRASOUND VISIT
What to expect.
Ultrasound uses sound waves to create images inside the body. For many exams, gel is applied to the skin and a small handheld probe moves over the area being examined.
Before you come
Preparation depends on the type of ultrasound. Confirm whether your exam needs fasting or a full bladder, and follow the instructions supplied for your appointment.
Ultrasound appointments Please book an appointment. Walk-ins may be accommodated depending on the day and availability, but are not guaranteed. Confirm that the specific examination on your referral is offered.
YOUR X-RAY VISIT
What to expect.
X-ray imaging uses ionizing radiation to create pictures inside the body. The technologist will help position you for the images.
Before you come
You may be asked to remove jewellery or clothing containing metal, or change into a gown. Tell the imaging team before the exam if you are pregnant or could be pregnant.
Walk-in X-ray No appointment is needed. Check our clinic hours and bring your requisition and health card.

What is an imaging requisition?
A requisition is the request from your healthcare professional describing the imaging examination they would like arranged. Keep it available when discussing your appointment, and bring it if you have been asked to.
Do I need an appointment, or can I walk in?
Ultrasound: please book an appointment. Walk-ins may be accommodated depending on the day and availability, but are not guaranteed.
X-ray: walk-in service; no appointment is needed. Bring your requisition and health card. Call (825) 402-8222 to book ultrasound or ask a question.
That depends on the examination. Follow the instructions provided for your appointment. If you have not received them, confirm with your imaging team. Do not assume that instructions for another examination apply to yours.
What should I mention when arranging my visit?
Ask about any mobility, communication or support-person needs, and tell the imaging team if you could be pregnant. Confirm any instructions that may affect your usual medication, food or fluid intake.
How do I follow up on my results?
Ask the healthcare professional who requested your examination how and when to follow up. Capital’s report access and delivery arrangements have not yet been published here. There is no patient-results portal on this website.
